5. Debris: the remains of anything destroyed
6. Gaping hole: deep and wide opening
7. Charred: blackened
8. Salvaging: saving goods or property from being damaged or destroyed
9. Survey: examine or inspect carefully; scrutinize
10. Hale (Hale and hearty): Free from disease
